Traditional glazing

Acorn Glass have the necessary skills and expertise available to undertake traditional glazing work in old, historic and listed buildings using traditional glazing methods.

Extreme care is taken to avoid damage to any existing glass due to the limitation on its supply from salvaged sources. Where new glass is required, and matching salvaged glass cannot be obtained, the closest match possible is obtained and used.

Leaded lights are a traditional form of window decoration to which the experienced and skilled team of engineers at  Acorn Glass  are able to carry out a full restoration or repair service.

Reproduction cylinder glass is currently used by Acorn Glass when replacing traditional glass as it is the only readily available form of traditional glass in the UK.

Our glaziers are sufficiently skilled and experienced to remove glass panes from their frames when removal is necessary for repair work to the frame to be undertaken.

Leaded and Overlaid lead lights

As a modern alternative to traditional leaded lights Acorn Glass produce  single pane or double glazed units with an overlay of lead strips, with coloured film if required, to create creative and original glass facades and panels.

This procedure of lead overlay can result in an accurate recreation and appearance of traditional leaded glass windows or doors or can be used to produce a simple, modern glass feature.

The lead overlay is adhered with a high performance adhesive and consists of 99.5% pure lead with an additive to improve its weathering performance.

Lead overlay has been used by Acorn Glass in both commercial and domestic environments including mirrors, cafes/restaurants, windows and doors and conservatories.
